Edgemoor Condos in Bethesda

The Edgemoor at 4821 Montgomery Lane is a small elegant condo community surrounded by the best of what Bethesda has to offer. The 54 owners enjoy living just steps away from the downtown Bethesda shops and restaurants, the Bethesda Metro station and Wisconsin Avenue.  The new Marriott headquarters is about three blocks away and Walter Reed and NIH are less than a mile away.

Built by PN Hoffman in 2003 the Edgemoor represents stately and timeless architecture combined with extraordinary attention to detail.  The condos have fireplaces, Juliette balconies, and typically two parking spaces.

The Edgemoor Condos offers a concierge, fitness center, meeting room, party room and security.

The condo fee in 2022 is approximately $1.00 per square foot. For example, unit 705 is 2146 square feet with a condo fee of $2020.00 a month. Unit 504 is 1148 square feet and $1260 per month.

The condo fee includes water and sewer, managment, reserve funds, master insurance, exterior building and common area maintenance, elevator, exercise room, game room, party room, meeting room, parking and concierge

With the exception of unit 106, a one bedroom one bath with a fireplace, which is 855 square feet, all the condos at the Edgemoor are over 1000 square feet.  Unit 106 has nine foot ceilings and is ADA compliant.  Beginning on the 3rd floor, the 04 tier is 1148 square feet until the 8th floor.  (Units 104 and 204 are 1382 and 1127 square feet respectively.)  The 03 tier beginning on the 3rd floor is 1387 square feet.  The 01 tier is bigger yet – 1730 square feet! The 06 tier is 1840 square feet from the 3rd floor to the 7th floor.  The 05 tier is 2146 square feet.  The largest unit is  902 which is 5010 square feet!

Unit 504 recently sold (Jan.2022) for $725,000.  It had two bedrooms plus den and two baths and 1148 square feet.   The kitchen has been updated with white cabinets, quartz counter tops and brushed rose gold accents. The kitchen is open to the living room and dining area. There is a bed room on each side of the unit. A reserved parking spot is included in the listing.

Unit 401 sold in December 2021 for $1,250,000 with 1723 square feet.  An inviting marble foyer leads to a gorgeous, open living room with bay window sitting area and gas fireplace with marble surround and mantel with custom trim. The adjacent dining room features a trimmed niche perfect for a buffet or sideboard, and French doors to a Juliet balcony. Unit 706 sold in May 2021 for $1,349,000.  The kitchen in this unit was remodeled in 2018.  It also had two bedrooms plus den and two and a half baths.

Everything that you want or need is right outside your door. If you would rather get in a run or a long bike ride, the Capital Crescent Trail three blocks away Since this is Bethesda, you know that all the restaurants and movie theaters and shops of downtown Bethesda are just outside the door! Everything you need is nearby from grocery stores to fine shops, good restaurants, movie theaters and commuter routes around the city – but at the Hampden Square condos you have great shops and restaurants on the ground floor of your building! Mon Ami Gabi, True Food, Paul, Silver and Chop’t are all right there. If you like to cook, you will never lack for supplies. The Safeway on Bradley Boulevard is just down the street at the corner of Arlington Road. Trader Joe’s is four blocks away on Wisconsin Avenue, and the Giant is three blocks away on Arlington and Bethesda Avenue.  Harris Teeter has finally opened in Bethesda just south of NIH and Walter Reed and has been joined by a full sized Trader Joe’s.  Small shops abound too!  There are a fish market, a great pastry and bakery, and a wonderful wine store on Bethesda Avenue.

You can leave your car in the garage and walk to the Bethesda Metro, Walter Reed or NIH. Stroll to Mon Ami Gabi and Jaleo or take in a movie and then grab an ice cream next door at Hagen Daz.  The condos at Hampden Square are perfect as a pied a terre or for someone downsizing from a large home in Potomac or Chevy Chase but still wanting lots of entertaining space.

Suburban Hospital is about three mile away.  Suburban Hospital is part of the Johns Hopkins Hospital network and has an excellent pediatric emergency room.

Children who live at the Edgemoor Condos in downtown Bethesda attend Bethesda Elementary (home to a great Sunday morning farmers’ market), Westland Middle School and Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. BCC’s International Baccalaureate program is a great draw to that high school.

There are approximately 2,000 students enrolled at B-CC from more than 55 countries.  Approximately 75 percent of students go on to attend a four-year college; 20 percent attend a two-year college.  BCC High School recently completed a 94000 square foot addition for new classroom space. The new addition includes two wings that connect the existing building to enhance circulation. The design featured collaborative learning areas adjacent to classrooms and found spaces near vertical circulation for gathering, performances, and learning. A naturally lit stairway was incorporated in the new addition as well as a large dance room. The stadium and sports fields were completed in March 2019.

B-CC has been participating in the International Baccalaureate Program since 1996. The program provides students a liberal arts, interdisciplinary education leading to a diploma recognized throughout the world. Instead of pursuing a full IB diploma, students at B-CC may choose to take one or more IB courses (except Theory of Knowledge) and obtain a certificate for the successful completion of the requirements for each course (more on B-CC’s IB program).

The Edgemoor in downtown Bethesda is a small building with just 54 units like some other luxury buildings in Bethesda.  For example, the Cheval, the Hampden and the Edgemoor at Arlington. are similar in size.  Others like the Somerset complex are larger.  If you are looking for a luxury building in Bethesda you might consider Somerset, the  Adagio, the Darcy, or newer buildings like the Lauren, Stonehall, The Ritz Carleton in Chevy Chase,  Quarry Springs,  Lionsgate or the Cheval nearby.
