All About the Darcy
The Darcy at 7171 Woodmont Ave Bethesda was built by PN Hoffman and Stonebridge Carras. Other projects that PN Hoffman and Stonebridge Carras has built include Chevy Chase Point, Chevy Chase Center, the Edgemoor Condominium, and Two Bethesda Metro Center.
Monty Hoffman, chief executive of PN Hoffman, called the location “the corner of Main and Main.” Shops, restaurants, movie theaters and entertainment venues surround the Darcy and its neighboring high-rise apartment building, the Flats. Restaurants and shops opened on the ground floor in each building, adding to choices in an abundant retail scene. Pottery Barn, Paul, and Chop’t are all across the street. Sadly, Passion Fish, the restaurant on the street level of the Darcy, closed as a result of COVID. A medical clinic is taking its place, an apt addition to downtown Bethesda in these COVID days.
“The Darcy is in the heart of everything great about Bethesda, but we’ve designed it to be a retreat, too, with a private clubroom,” Hoffman says. “We placed the lobby entrance away from the intersection so it’s more private and quiet.”
The Darcy is named for the founder of the downtown Bethesda business district – William E. Darcy. In 1862, this shopkeeper and farmer opened the first general store in the area, at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Wisconsin Avenues. He was also postmaster of the area that was known as Darcy PO until Bethesda was established in 1871.

Value of Your Condo at the Darcy
There are a number of sites on the internet that will give you ‘estimates’ for what your home will sell for. These sites use public records and usually some kind of algorithm to try to produce a value for your home. These sites also publicly state their ‘error rates’. That means they aren’t correct, they are simply an estimate based on incomplete date.
We would love to do a free comparitive market analysis of your home or condo on Capitol Hill and let you know what could expect to get in today’s market if you are considering selling. Our valuation is based on up to the day data for homes that have recently sold in the area. Our valuation is not based on a formula that relies on public records which can take months to update.
