Cookie shops in Bethesda have become very popular in the last few years, with national shops sending up stores to compete with our local business. You can find stores from New York to Paris now along Bethesda ROw!
Levain, the New York cookie store, has an outpost on Bethesda Avenue close to the Apple Store and Lululemon. According to the Levain website, Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald created Levain Bakery in 1995, out of their passions for food, friendship, and hard work. One day, they created an ultimate chocolate chip walnut cookie to give them energy while training for a triathlon and a new business of cookies was created. In Bethesda levain sells dark chocolate chip cookies, walnut chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin, two chip chocolate chip cookies, dark chocolate peanut chip, and caramel coconut chocolate chip.
These cookies are BIG – weighing in at about 6 ounces – so come hungry! They also have vegan and gluten free cookies in addition to breads, pastries, brioche and loaf cakes like lemon or pumpkin spice.
Chip City Cookies is the newest addition to Bethesda’s cookies wars. Located at 4939 Elm Street, it is just a block from Levain. Chip City’s Cookies are slightly smaller than Levain’s, but still a hefty 5.5 ounces each! Chip City has over 40 varieties on its website, ranging from butterscotch toffee to chocolate peppermint crinkle to horchata and red velvet cheesecake. Chip City Cookies comes with a big following from New York and is a welcomed addition to the cookie shops in Bethesda.
Georgetown Cupcake is also on Bethesda Avenue at 4834, just in case the cookies at Levain aren’t enough or you want a change from the cookie shops in Bethesda. Inspired by their grandmother, Katherine and Sophie opened Georgetown Cupcake on Valentine’s Day 2008 in Washington, DC. Over the past 15 years, Katherine and Sophie have made Georgetown Cupcake’s DC flagship bakery a destination for cupcake lovers across the globe. With a menu of over 100 different flavors, Georgetown Cupcake ships its cupcakes nationwide. Georgetown Cupcake is in full holiday swing with flavors like sticky toffee pudding and gingerbread cheesecake! The pink boxes are almost as iconic as Tiffany’s blue boxes but the contents are less expensive. Georgetown Cupcake is great about delivering to college dorms, creating special celebrations for birthdays and exam week!
