Homes for sale in the Burning Tree Elementary School District tend to go quickly because parents consider Burning Tree to be one of the best schools in the county.  Neighborhoods included in the school district include parts of Kenwood Park, Cohasset, Frenchman’s Creek, Burning Tree Valley and West Bethesda Park. Burning Tree students represent a diverse population with an enrollment of 476 students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade, including in the school based Learning Center. The students come to us from many countries around the world. The ESOL Program (English Speakers of Other Languages) includes students speaking as many as 20 different languages with a variety of ability levels and backgrounds. This diversity provides the school with a rich cultural heritage.

Burning Tree Elementary School opened in 1958 with eight classrooms. In the fall of 1977, Fernwood Elementary and Whittier Woods Elementary were closed and consolidated with Burning Tree. The building was modernized in 1991 and relocatables were added so that the school now houses twenty-eight classrooms situated on a partially wooded 6.8 acre site. with large playing fields, tennis courts and a playground.  A gymnasium addition was completed tin the summer of 2007.

Are you ready to start your home search?  This part of Bethesda has homes dating from the late 1950s such as ramblers and split levels on 1/4 acre lots to new construction with over 4000 square feet of living space and kitchens worthy of Nigella Lawson or Jaimie Oliver.  Many of the older homes are sold now directly to a builder who tears down the old house and builds a larger home with the amenities many modern buyers are looking for.

This neighborhood is popular for its mature landscaping, proximity to the river and the C&O canal, easy commute to downtown DC via River Road, Canal Road and Wisconsin Avenue, and its closeness to downtown Bethesda with its shops and restaurants.  Private schools close to this area include Holton Arms, Landon, Primary Day and Bradley Hills Nursery School.  The nearest grocery stores are the Giant at Westbard which was recently rebuilt and the Whole Foods on River Road.
