Elementary schools in Chevy Chase go from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.  Many families moving to Montgomery County choose an elementary school first for their children and then choose their new home in the same school district. The schools for Chevy Chase Maryland are good (and in demand) but each one has its own personality and in this post, I will be sharing information about each of these individual schools.

Introduction – Elementary Schools in Chevy Chase

The elementary schools in Chevy Chase go from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.  Many families moving to Montgomery County choose the school and then choose their new home in that school district.   The schools for Chevy Chase Maryland are very good and each one has its own personality.

Bethesda Elementary School – 7600 Arlington Road

According to Greatschools.org, there are 650 students in Bethesda Elementary from K-5.  The school ranks 8 out of 10 overall, 9 out of 10 in academic progress, 9 out of 10 on test scores, and 7 out of 10 in equity. 7 % of students are from low income families.

Bethesda Elementary is ranked 51st out of 862 elementary Maryland schools, according to Schooldigger.com.  The county spends over $16,000 per student.  Over 15% of students receive free lunch.

As the Bethesda Elementary School website notes, Bethesda Elementary School is located in the heart of Bethesda, Maryland.  Bethesda is an urbanized, but unincorporated area in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, just Northwest of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a church located there, the Bethesda Presbyterian Church, built in 1820 and rebuilt in 1850, which in turn took its name from Jerusalem’s Pool of Bethesda.

Everyone loves attending the farmers’ market on Sunday mornings at the Bethesda Elementary School and then walking into Bethesda for brunch.

Rosemary Hills Elementary School – 2111 Porter Road

Rosemary Hills Primary School in Silver Spring serves children in Chevy Chase for grades K-2. Once they reach the third grade (through fifth grade), they shift to Chevy Chase Elementary School, just across Connecticut Avenue and Raymond Street on Rosemary Street.

Greatschools.org does not have any information at the moment on Rosemary Hills. Schooldigger says that there are 541 students and the county spends nearly $19,000 on each student annually.  The teacher student ratio is 14 to 1.

Chevy Chase Elementary School – 4015 Rosemary St Chevy Chase

According to Greatschools.org, there are 452 students in grades 3-5.  The school ranks 8 out of 10 overall, 9 out of 10 in academic progress, 10 out of 10 on test scores, and 6 out of 10 in equity. 19 % of students are from low income families.

The Chevy Chase Elementary website says that the school has a rich history of education dating back to the late 1800s when a residence on Bradley Lane was first designated as Chevy Chase School.  The school building itself is one of a few historically designated properties among MCPS school facilities.  The first on-site structure was erected in 1917 with additional renovations and extensions completed over the years.  Most recently the building underwent an extensive renovation in 1999.  From its humble beginnings as a schoolhouse on Bradley Lane, CCES has grown into a leading MCPS school, incorporating innovative teaching methods and culturally-proficient, growth mindsets within its diverse community.

The Schooldigger website lists Chevy Chase ES as the 36th best elementary school in the state.  21.5% of its students receive free lunch, and the county spends over $14,000 per student on their education.  The average test scores are at 95.3%.

Kensington-Parkwood Elementary School – 4710 Saul Road

According to Greatschools.org, there are 656 students in grades K-5.  The school ranks 8 out of 10 overall, 10 out of 10 in academic progress, 7 out of 10 on test scores, and 8 out of 10 in equity. 8 % of students are from low income families.

Schooldigger ranks Kensington-Parkwood 30th overall in the 862 elementary schools in Maryland.  The county spends nearly $15,000 per student at Kensington-Parkwood. 13.4% of students receive a free lunch.

Oakland Terrace – 2720 Plyers Mill Road

According to Greatschools.org, there are 490 students in grades PK-5.  The school ranks 6 out of 10 overall, 8 out of 10 in academic progress, 7 out of 10 on test scores, and 4 out of 10 in equity. 28 % of students are from low income families.elementary school

Schooldigger ranks Oakland Terrrace 217th out of 862 elementary schools  in Maryland.  The county spends over $20,000 per student and 26% of students receive a free lunch.

North Chevy Chase – 3700 Jones Bridge Road

According to Greatschools.org, there are 261 students in grades 3-5.  The school ranks 7 out of 10 overall, 9 out of 10 in academic progress, 8 out of 10 on test scores, and 5 out of 10 in equity. 19 % of students are from low income families.

Schooldigger ranks North Chevy Chase 112th out of 862 elementary schools in Maryland.  The county spends slightly more than $19,000 per student on education and 25.7% of students receive a free lunch.

Rock Creek Forest Elementary School- 8330 Grubb Road

elementary schoolAccording to Greatschools.org, there are 739 students in grades PK-5.  The school ranks 7 out of 10 overall, 9 out of 10 in academic progress, 6 out of 10 on test scores, and 6 out of 10 in equity. 22 % of students are from low income families.

You have many choices among elementary schools in Chevy Chase.  You might consider Rock Creek Elementary because it has one of the foreign language immersion programs offered by Montgomery County.   Spanish is offered at Rock Creek Elementary.

Rock Creek is 60th overall out of 862 elementary schools according to Schooldigger.  The county spends approximately $16,000 per student and 30.8% receive free lunches.

Somerset Elementary School – 5811 Warwick Place

According to Greatschools.org, there are 587 students in grades K-5.  The school ranks 8 out of 10 overall, 9 out of 10 in academic progress, 6 out of 10 on test scores, and 9 out of 10 in equity. 7 % of students are from low income families.

Schooldigger says that Somerset ES is ranked 32nd out of 862 elementary schools in Maryland. The county spends slightly less than $16,000 per student and 15.4% of students receive a free lunch.  Somerset Elementary is one of the elementary schools in Chevy Chase which is a highly ranked school that is very popular.  The school was recently rebuilt and has a great playground.

Westbrook Elementary – 5110 Allan Terrace

According to Greatschools.org, there are 348 students in grades PK-5.  The school ranks 9 out of 10 overall, 10 out of 10 in academic progress, and 8 out of 10 on test scores. 1 % of students are from low income families.

Westbrook ranks 8th in the state of Maryland out of 862 Maryland elementary schools.  The county spends $18,600 per student and 3.2% receive free lunches.

According to Niche.com, 82% of students at Westbrook Elementary are proficient and math and 82% are proficient in reading.
