Hop on the Red Line, and you’re in DC in about 22 minutes. Super convenient — and fares range from just $2 to $4. If you prefer taking it slow, buses will get you there in around 56 minutes, giving you extra time to daydream or people-watch. It’s a quick and easy trip no matter how you travel — perfect for spontaneous city adventures or weekday commuting!

You should know that we don’t do winter well in the DC area. If you judge us by our driving ability, you would think that everyone moved here last week from Florida. Snow sends us in to a tizzy – but so does a heavy rain! Winters actually are pretty mild in the DC area. We get a few frigid days when everyone talks about moving to Florida but usually the lows are in the high 20s to low 30s with a light dusting of snow occasionally. The lack of snow here is a good thing because I watched the snow plow get stuck on my street with only an inch or two of snow (but it was on a hill!) Spring warm from highs of 53°F in March to 75°F in May under gentle showers; summers bring humid afternoons with highs of 83–88°F and lows of 64–69°F, punctuated by late-day thunderstorms; and autumn cools from highs of 78°F in September to 54°F by November under crisp breezes and fiery foliage. Across the year, Bethesda averages roughly 40 inches of rainfall—peaking in May and June at about 3.5 inches per month and dipping to around 2 inches in January—ensuring lush greenery from spring blooms to autumn leaves.

As Mark Twain supposedly said, if you don’t like the weather just wait a few minutes! Bethesda’s weather is definitely seasonal and we love seeing the leaves turn in the fall to brilliant golds and reds and then return in the spring with gentle green buds. Bethesda is definitely an area for people who want to enjoy the seasons!
