What is Near the Whitley Park Townhomes?

Shopping is easy with the Rockville Pike nearly outside your door.  Pike and Rose offers restaurants, shops, movie theaters and a new town feel.

Whitley Park is just off Pooks Hill, is a welcome respite from the noise of daily life – but so close to everything that is Bethesda.  The Grosvenor Metro (Red line) is a short walk from the community and from there you can access all of the DC metro area.

Located between North Bethesda and downtown Bethesda, residents have a choice of restaurants such as Seasons 52 on the Rockville Pike and Ruth’s Chris Steak House on Wisconsin Avenue at the Air Rights Building.  The Pike and Rose offers lots more delicious choices like Call Your Mother, Summer House, Fogo de Chao, and Owens Ordinary.

Of course, downtown Bethesda has a variety of restaurants like Paul, Silver, Mon Ami Gabi, Blacks and so many more.  Shops in downtown Bethesda range from national stores like Apple, Blue Mercury, Bonobos, Lululemon to individual stores like Blue House.

The nearest grocery stores are the Whole Foods in Rockville at Woodglen Drive and Executive Boulevard, the Giant on the Rockville Pike, and the Harris Teeter at  Wisconsin Avenue near NIH.  The Strathmore Music Center is less than a mile away if you want to go to a concert or hear the Baltimore Symphony.  Shopping is diverse – H&M, Blue Mercury, L.L. BEAN,REI, West Elm, GAP, Visionworks, and Porsche!

Life is more than just shopping and eating however.  If you want to get outside for a long run or a peaceful walk, you will love that Beach Drive is so close.  Follow the paths along Beach Drive that will take you far into the woods of Rock Creek Park!

White Flint is scheduled for a complete renovation at some date in the future – but no one is sure when!  Don’t forget that Balducci’s is just a mile or two away at the Wildwood shopping center on Old Georgetown with all of its great prepared foods and fantastic vegetables, meats and wine selection. Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream is there too, along with Le Pain Quotidien, Starbucks, Blue Mercury, and South Moon Under, among the many shops and restaurants to choose from at Wildwood.

Montgomery Mall is just a few more minutes away off Democracy in case you feel the need for a big department store like Nordstrom’s or Macy’s.

The eighty four townhomes at Whitley Park were built in 1990  and 1994.
With three levels and a one or two car garage, each townhome has between three and four bedrooms, two to three baths and one or two half baths and one or two fireplaces.  The smaller homes have 2160 square feet of living space, but the larger ones have over 3000 square feet.  Most homes also have a patio off the rear for summer enjoyment. Kitchens and baths are spacious and may have been recently updated, depending on the current owner.

The townhomes typically have three levels, three bedrooms on the top floor, an open floorplan on the middle level and a garage and family room (which can double as a fourth bedroom) on the entry level.  Usually these homes have two full baths on the top floor and a half bath on the entry level and middle level.

The homes also have decks off the kitchen on the middle level and a patio off the family room on the entry level.

Schools for Whitley Park Townhomes

Children who live at Whitley Park attend Ashburton Elementary, North Bethesda Middle School and Walter Johnson High School.    Georgetown Prep, a well regarded Catholic high school for boys, is just a few blocks away  on the Rockville Pike and  Stone Ridge School for girls is just  a few blocks south on the Rockville Pike. In 2021, Walter Johnson ranked 5th in Montgomery County high schools behind Whitman, Poolesville, Wootton and Churchill (in that order) in the US News and World Report school rankings.  It was 11th in the state overall.  The AP® participation rate at Walter Johnson High is 76%. Also according to US News, the total minority enrollment is 46%, and 7% of students are economically disadvantaged.  You can also choose from schools like the Lycee Rochambeau, Holton-Arms and Landon.

If you want to take your children to swim, you will love how close the Bethesda Aquatic Center is on Executive Boulevard. The new Rockville Library is just about a mile away and of course the Bethesda library is similarly located a mile to the south.

Condo Fee

The condo fee at the Whitley Park provides access to the exercise room and sauna at the high rise, the pool and the tennis courts.  It also provides access to the tot lot, snow removal, trash removal and common area maintenance. The condo fee averaged $377 a month in 2017 and $455 for the 2160 square foot unit in late 2021.

Major Employees

Major employers in Bethesda include Marriott, the Walter Reed Medical Center, The Howard Hughes Institute, The National Institutes of Health, Capital One Bank, Lockheed Martin, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Chase condos are across the street from the Red Line Metro in downtown Bethesda and very close to the new purple line.  The Beltway and I-270 are very close too so that you can always get around the metro area from here.

What Has Sold Recently

With less than one hundred townhomes in Whitley Park, there are very few on the market in any year.  The last two years with Covid have only magnified that shortage of sales!  Five sold in the last quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022.  The prices ranged from $677,000 to $710,000.  All the townhomes sold in this period were 2160 square feet.

Townhomes at Whitley Park have ranged from the mid 600s to the high 700s
in 2017.  5459 Whitley Park Terrace sold for $780,000 in April 2017.  It was one of the largest models with over 3000 square feet and was an end unit.  Other special features included the bump out in the kitchen with lots of windows and a loft in the master bedroom with a second fireplace.
