What Condos are for Sale in the Woodmont Triangle Now?

If you are searching for condos for sale in Bethesda, the Woodmont Triangle is one of the first neighborhoods you should explore. It offers the walkability and energy of downtown Bethesda, but it often feels a little quieter and more neighborhood-oriented than Bethesda Row. You can walk to restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, parks and the Bethesda Metro while still having convenient access to NIH, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Marriott’s headquarters.

The Woodmont Triangle also offers an unusually varied collection of condominiums. Buyers can choose from affordable studios and one-bedroom condos, larger homes for downsizers, townhouse-style residences and newer luxury buildings with concierge service, rooftop terraces and sophisticated fitness centers. The Whitehall, Sussex House, Madison Park, City Commons of Bethesda, the Christopher, Fairmont Plaza, the Cheval, Stonehall and Lionsgate are nine buildings worth considering.

The Whitehall: Space, Greenery and an Outdoor Pool

The Whitehall consists of two buildings at 4977 Battery Lane and 8315 North Brook Lane. It is one of my favorite Bethesda recommendations for buyers who want space, convenience and value without paying new-construction prices.  The two buildings, which are mid-century modern, offer condos with generous rooms, large windows and good closet space. Some homes have balconies, while the community’s landscaped grounds make the Whitehall feel greener and less urban than many downtown buildings.  Don’t miss the crescent of townhomes wrapped around the pool. These all have large windows, three bedrooms upstairs and two and a half baths and a beautiful open staircase.

The Whitehall has an outdoor pool, a fitness center and shared laundry rooms on each floor. The Battery Lane building also has a staffed front desk, and the community offers parking, gathering space and areas for walking a dog.  The Whitehall can be an excellent option for first-time buyers as well as downsizers who want a substantial one-bedroom or two-bedroom condo close to downtown Bethesda. Buyers should compare the two buildings carefully because their layouts, services and parking arrangements are not identical.

Sussex House: A Quiet Mid-Century Condo Near the Park

Sussex House is located at 4970 Battery Lane, next to Battery Lane Urban Park. It is a smaller condominium community with distinctive mid-century architecture, large windows and pleasantly sized rooms.  I love the lobby with its retro wall clock and the floating staircase.

This building appeals to buyers who want a quieter environment and do not need the extensive amenities of a large high-rise. Sussex House has a small fitness room, bicycle storage and shared laundry facilities rather than washers and dryers in the individual condos. It does not have a swimming pool.

The park next door provides outdoor recreation without the cost of maintaining extensive private amenities. Residents are also within walking distance of the restaurants and shops of the Woodmont Triangle, as well as both the Bethesda and Medical Center Metro stations.

Madison Park: Larger Condos with In-Unit Laundry

Madison Park, located at 5000 Battery Lane., is an attractive choice for buyers who want more space, a balcony and a washer and dryer inside the condo.  The building offers a variety of floor plans, including some unusually large two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes. Many condos have balconies or terraces, and residents appreciate the generous windows, closets and practical layouts. Madison Park also has a fitness room, party room, outdoor gathering space, assigned parking and additional storage.

There is no community swimming pool, but Battery Lane Urban Park is nearby. Madison Park can be especially appealing to downsizers who need enough room for furniture from a larger home or families who want a downtown location in the B-CC school cluster.

City Commons of Bethesda: Townhouse-Style Condo Living

City Commons of Bethesda is a small community on Battery Place, near Old Georgetown Road. Unlike the nearby high-rises, these are one-level and two-level townhouse-style condos with private entrances.  The stucco exteriors give City Commons a distinctive look, while patios and balconies create a greater connection to the outdoors. The homes range from compact one-bedroom condos to larger two-bedroom residences. Each condo has its own washer and dryer, and many homes have fireplaces.

City Commons does not have a pool or fitness center. For some buyers, that is part of the appeal: they are paying for a convenient home rather than a long list of amenities they may not use. Reserved surface parking is another practical advantage.  Because there are only about 35 condos in the community, listings do not become available frequently. City Commons is particularly popular with buyers who want to avoid elevators and long interior hallways. However, some homes require exterior stairs, so buyers with mobility concerns should look carefully at the location and layout of each unit.

The Christopher: Metro Convenience with a Pool and Gym

The Christopher is located at 4808 Moorland Lane, only a few blocks from the Bethesda Metro. It offers more of a full-service condominium experience, with a front desk, outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, community space and garage parking.  The building includes one-bedroom, two-bedroom and larger condos, many with balconies. Most homes have a washer and dryer, although buyers should confirm the laundry arrangement in the particular condo they are considering.

The Christopher is an excellent choice for buyers who want amenities and Metro convenience in the heart of downtown Bethesda. It can work especially well for commuters, frequent travelers and downsizers looking for a lock-and-leave lifestyle.

Fairmont Plaza: Walkability and Value in Downtown Bethesda

Fairmont Plaza is located at 4801 Fairmont Avenue, close to the restaurants and shops that make the Woodmont Triangle so much fun. It offers studios, one-bedroom condos and two-bedroom condos, many with balconies, open layouts and updated kitchens.

Each condo has its own washer and dryer, which is a significant advantage at this price point. Fairmont Plaza does not have a swimming pool or fitness center, but its location puts residents close to private gyms, studios, parks and nearly everything else they might need.

Fairmont Plaza is often a good starting point for first-time buyers, investors and people who want a Bethesda pied-à-terre. It is also worth considering for downsizers who value walkability and convenience more than extensive building amenities.

Luxury Condos in the Woodmont Triangle

Buyers looking for a higher level of service should pay particular attention to the Cheval, Stonehall and Lionsgate. All three offer in-unit laundry, garage parking, concierge service, fitness facilities and attractive outdoor gathering spaces. None has a swimming pool, but each provides a true lock-and-leave lifestyle in one of Bethesda’s most walkable locations.

The three buildings offer different versions of luxury. The Cheval feels sleek and contemporary, Stonehall is smaller and more intimate, and Lionsgate is known for its extensive services and traditional full-service atmosphere.

The Cheval: Contemporary Luxury in the Heart of the Triangle

The Cheval is located at 4960 Fairmont Avenue, at the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Old Georgetown Road. With only 71 residences, it combines the services of a luxury high-rise with a more private, boutique atmosphere.

The residences feature open floor plans, large windows, modern kitchens, upscale finishes and washers and dryers in each home. Many condos have private balconies or terraces, and the larger residences provide the space that many downsizers want when leaving a substantial house.

Residents enjoy concierge service, a sophisticated lobby and lounge, a fitness center, a separate yoga and movement studio, garage parking and an impressive rooftop terrace with grilling and seating areas. The Cheval does not have a swimming pool.

This is one of my favorite Bethesda buildings for downsizers who do not want their next home to feel like a compromise. It provides contemporary design, comfortable floor plans and a genuine lock-and-leave lifestyle within walking distance of Metro, restaurants, grocery stores, NIH and Walter Reed.

Stonehall: Boutique Luxury with a Neighborhood Feeling

Stonehall is located at 8302 Woodmont Avenue, toward the northern end of the Woodmont Triangle. It is a smaller luxury building with only about 46 residences, giving it a quieter and more intimate feeling than many downtown high-rises.

The building offers a range of two-bedroom, three-bedroom and penthouse residences. The condos have upscale kitchens, large windows, washers and dryers, garage parking and, in many cases, private balconies or terraces.

Stonehall’s amenities include concierge service, on-site management, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a private club room and rooftop terraces with garden areas and views over Bethesda. It does not have a swimming pool.

Stonehall is particularly appealing to downsizers who want luxury and service but do not want to live in a very large building. Because there are relatively few residences, the staff and neighbors often get to know one another, creating a sense of community that can be difficult to find in a downtown condo.

Its location between the Bethesda and Medical Center Metro stations is another important advantage, particularly for people who work at NIH or Walter Reed or want easy access to Washington, DC.

Lionsgate: Full-Service Living Near Metro

Lionsgate is located at 7710 Woodmont Avenue, close to the Bethesda Metro and the restaurants, shops and entertainment of downtown Bethesda. It is one of the best-known full-service luxury condominiums in the area.

The residences range from one-bedroom homes to large two-bedroom, three-bedroom and penthouse condos. They feature washers and dryers, hardwood floors, upscale kitchens, generous closets and garage parking. Many floor plans offer the substantial rooms and storage that downsizers need.

Lionsgate is especially distinguished by its services. Residents enjoy a 24-hour front desk, concierge, doorman and complimentary valet parking for guests. The building also has a fitness center, yoga space, library, club room and landscaped rooftop terrace with grilling and seating areas. Lionsgate does not have a swimming pool.

For buyers who want a high level of personal service, Lionsgate is difficult to match. It can be an excellent choice for frequent travelers, downsizers and anyone who wants the convenience of a luxury building where packages, guests and many of the details of daily life are handled professionally.

Which Woodmont Triangle Condo Is Right for You?

The best choice depends on how you plan to live. If a pool is essential, begin with the Whitehall or the Christopher. If you want a washer and dryer inside your condo, focus on Madison Park, City Commons, the Christopher, Fairmont Plaza, the Cheval, Stonehall or Lionsgate.

If you prefer a smaller, quieter building, Sussex House or Stonehall may be a good fit. If you want a private entrance and a townhouse feeling, City Commons stands apart from the high-rise choices. Buyers looking for contemporary luxury should consider the Cheval, while those who value boutique service and a more intimate atmosphere may prefer Stonehall. For extensive services, a doorman and valet parking, Lionsgate is particularly compelling.

Downsizers may be happiest at Madison Park, the Whitehall, the Christopher, the Cheval, Stonehall or Lionsgate, depending on the amount of space and level of service they want. First-time buyers often find opportunities at the Whitehall, Sussex House and Fairmont Plaza.

The condo fee is only one part of the decision. Before buying, it is important to review what the fee includes, the building’s reserve study, recent budgets, planned projects, insurance coverage, pet rules, parking arrangements and any current or anticipated special assessments.
