  • Martin’s Tavern: A historic establishment that has been around since 1933, Martin’s Tavern is known for its classic American fare and cozy atmosphere. It has been frequented by many famous figures throughout its long history and is known as the place where Jack Kennedy proposed to Jackie.  Dog friendly and outdoor seating too!  This counts as a must-visit!
  • Clyde’s of Georgetown: A local institution, Clyde’s has been the place for Sunday brunch, bloody Marys and omelettes for over 50 years in the same location on M St. The hamburgers are pretty good too!  If you want a classic Georgetown dining experience, go to Clyde’s as a must-visit!
  • The Tombs: Located near Georgetown University, The Tombs is a popular spot for students and locals and is perfect for casual dining. Dating from 1962, the Tombs offers American pub fare and has a relaxed atmosphere.  The Tombs will let you relive your college days!  The Tombs is located in the historic district of Georgetown!
  • 1789 is the upscale restaurant located above the Tombs. The restaurant is named for the year that the Constitution was adopted, the village of Georgetown was incorporated, and Archbishop John Carroll, founder of Georgetown University,  purchased the land that is the site of the restaurant.  Located in a Federal home dating from the mid 19th century, the restaurant has the feel of a stately home with working fireplaces.  If you are looking for a trip back in time to an earlier period of Georgetown’s history, 1789 is your ticket!

Waterfront Restaurants in Georgetown

  • Fiola Mare: This upscale seafood restaurant offers an elegant dining experience with a focus on Italian-inspired coastal cuisine. The restaurant overlooks the Potomac River and is a lovely place for lunch on a summer afternoon!  This is the perfect place for outdoor seating overlooking the Potomac!  It may not qualify as a hidden gem, but it is a must-visit for fine dining in Georgetown.
  • Farmers Fishers Bakers: Located on the Georgetown waterfront at 3000 K St NW, this restaurant serves a diverse menu featuring farm-to-table American cuisine with a focus on sustainability.
  • Sequoia: Located on the Georgetown waterfront at 3000 K St NW, Sequoia Restaurant boasts a very open beautifully decorated interior. The view of the Potomac River is gorgeous. The restaurant serves New American cuisine with innovative dishes prepared with local ingredients. Burgers, salads and sandwiches round out the menu. Sunday brunch is popular, especially in the summer when the outdoor patio is open. The ground floor of the restaurant is a bar, and in the summer months, the outside tables are packed with business people looking to relax after a long day at work.

Italian Restaurant – Anyone?

  • Filomena Ristorante: This Italian restaurant is famous for its homemade pasta and extensive menu. The cozy interior and warm ambiance add to the overall dining experience. As you go down the stairs to the restaurant you will see grandmotherly figures making pasta by hand in the upstairs kitchen! This was a popular choice for Bill Clinton when he was president.
  • Pizzeria Paradiso: If you’re in the mood for pizza and casual dining in the historic district of Georgetown, Pizzeria Paradiso offers a variety of delicious wood-fired pizzas with a wide selection of toppings. They also have an extensive beer menu.

Sometimes a quick snack is all you need,  Georgetown can certain fill that hungry spot at several restaurants such as Patisserie Poupon, Boulangerie Christophe, and Levain for chocolate chip cookies.

 

Baked and Wired is a popular bakery and coffee shop located at 1052 Thomas Jefferson St NW and known for its pies, cupcakes and pastries.

Georgetown Cupcake is a popular cupcake store with the distinctive pink box. The star of a TV show, DC Cupcakes, many people put Georgetown Cupcake at the top of their snack list!
