WHY CHOOSE SUMNER VILLAGE
Sumner Village was carefully developed between 1972 and 1977, with a design that preserves the natural beauty of the land. Instead of reshaping the rolling terrain, the architects worked with it — minimizing the sense of building mass and creating a peaceful, private environment surrounded by mature trees and parkland. Here, traffic noise fades away, replaced by the calming sounds of nature. Sumner Village isn’t just beautiful — it’s award-winning. In 1988, the Smithsonian Institution Press recognized it in Best Addresses: A Century of Washington’s Distinguished Apartment Houses. And the Potomac Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects honored the community’s thoughtful design with its prestigious Award of Excellence.
You will love sitting on your balcony and watching the birds in the trees or the deer walking gracefully through the parkland across the street! There is even a gate into the park that is accessible just for people who live at Sumner Village, so that it is easy to get to the Capital Crescent Trail that will take you all the way to Georgetown by bike, roller blade or foot and the Little Falls Valley Stream Trail that wanders through the park from Massachusetts Avenue down to Sangamore Road!
