Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream in Bethesda is a two year old ice cream store with locations at the Wildwood Shopping Center and at 5241 River Road. If you are looking for delicious ice cream or unusual flavors, Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream is the place to go.
Favorite Flavors
I love good vanilla ice cream and deep chocolate too (which Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream certainly provides. However, the unusual flavors always attract me. You will fall in love with the rose ice cream, a pale pink color with a delicate rose flavor, or the ginger ice cream with a real kick from three kinds of ginger. If you want to go boozy, try the seasonal peach and bourbon or the dark and stormy ice cream. The Bethesda Condo Queen loves the peppermint stick and salty caramel too!
Small Batch, Local Small Business
Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream is a welcome addition to the Bethesda gourmet scene. The ice cream is made on site in small batches using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients whenever possible. The business was created by a mother-daughter team, Sarah and Annie Park. In 2018, Sarah found herself experiementing and creating original ice cream recipes for friends, neighbors and family. Soon enough, a very successful and joy-filled business was born! If you don’t want to wait in line, you can order on line!
What sets Sarah’s store apart from the many other ice cream stores in Bethesda is that it is local. Sarah creates ice cream flavors like Cherry Blossom in honor of the Kenwood cherry blossoms, or Cardinal ice cream, named for the mascot of near by Little Flower School. She tells me that Bethesda Brickle is on its way too. That is a level of community involvement by the womens’ owned small business that you don’t get with companies like Hagen-Daz or Baskin Robbins, no matter how good their ice cream is. I love the idea of supporting local businesses like Sarah’s, particularly as we navigate these months of pandemic!
Cups for Pups
If you are like me and love going to pet friendly restaurants that are nice to your dog, you will love this ice cream store. This ice cream store doesn’t forget your fur babies! There is a cup of yogurt, peanut butter, pumpkin, and dried beef liver that is perfect on a warm day for your favorite pup! I can personally attest to how popular the pup cups are. Captain loved his when I gave it to him last weekend. I even took some to a dog birthday party in the neighborhood! Very “Pupular!”
